what's new

November kept me busy this month. And not just eating turkey! ! I worked on a couple commercials that included Black Cat Fireworks and American Italian Pasta Company. I also took part in helping Real Media shoot a hilarious facility video tour for their website. It should be on their site soon!

I also spent a weekend with a talented crew in Topeka shooting a teaser for the Demolition Derby. We spent three days filiming and getting to know members at Blizzard Bash 2011. The promoters there are hoping to pitch a reality show to TV execs soon. I don't see why they won't be able to get it produed! I'd watch a show about cars crashing into each other! See below for a photo:

Although the holidays are fast approaching, I'm still geared up to work! So if you've got a great project that needs that extra attention to detail on the audio side, drop me a line! In the mean time, take a look at a sampling of my work to the right!

About this site

Red Lab Audio is the summation of my aural journey through life. It's a science...an art...a passion. It's an experience that cannot be seen or touched. It can only be heard.

After graduating high school (where I spent most of my time in a music class or doing something music related), I enrolled at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. At the University's Conservatory of Music is where I began my studies in the music composition department. It was here where I first got my taste for what sound can do for the senses. But it wasn't until I had enrolled in an Electronic Music course that I found out what it could do for me.

I had always had an interest in music, but also had an even stronger interest (and talent) for the technology side. I spent many late nights in the studio playing with effects or tweaking synthesizers to find that unique sound. I'd walk around the projection booth at the movie theater I worked at, armed with a DAT recorder and a mic...recording sounds of the film flying through the projectors. Sounds I knew the other students wouldn't have an opportunity to capture. At home, I'd mic up my roommate and a couple other jazz students who had stopped by for an impromptu jam session in our tiny apartment.

I soon realized that if I wanted to be serious about persuing an audio engineering career, taking speech and history classes wasn't going to get me there any faster. That's when I made the decision to move to Florida and attend a well known recording program at Full Sail Academy. It was here that I received the hands on experience and the fundamentals that would prepare me for the real world.

During my time at Full Sail I realized quickly I was attracted to the video post production side of audio. In the many classes I took, I realized I had had the most fun when I was creating that perfect sound effect for an on-screen explosion or doing ADR for a movie scene. When I moved back to KC in 2004, what I had learned helped me to quickly fall into a position as the audio engineer for Metro Productions; a full service video production and post production studio. As the sole engineer, I got my ears wet on just about everything. From local TV spots and charity projects to national corporate productions and short films. If it has sound, I can mix it!

As of recent, I've gone freelance! With the combination of my studio and location audio experience, I think it makes me the perfect asset to any project. Not only can I work on your projects from pre-production all the way through post...but I can also recommend what other freelancers might not hear.
